Building restoration project

It's taken a lot of work to turn Amberley into the comfortable place that it is. From February to November 2001 Terry has been supervising builders, plumbers, handymen, painters, tilers and others.

All of the woodwork, doors, windows, floors were stripped, repaired, restored and varnished. Walls were patched. Glass panes replaced.

Restored bathroom window

The teak and oregon staircase was sanded and varnished.

Staircase - the before picture

Tonnes of rubble was removed.

One used toilet (pink) going cheap!

The outside toilet was quite third world.

Inspecting the plastering

We had broken doors and wires hanging from the ceiling.

Wires and doors everywhere

A pantry was turned into a bathroom.

Can't use this one yet

Damp was causing paint to peel off the walls.

Damp

And things sometimes went wrong. While chasing pipes into a bathroom wall the plumbers broke right through the wall and into the next room, collapsing part of the wall.

Patched

New toilets, new basins, new showers, new geysers, new taps, new pipes, new drains ...

Unpacking the new toys

New pipes to the basins in the bedrooms.

Hidden pipes

New electric power lines.

Hidden wires

A new shower.

Shower

And yet more plumbing.
